Duke Energy Corporation Description:
Duke Energy Corporation (collectively with its subsidiaries, Duke Energy) is an energy company located in the Americas. Duke Energy provides its services through the business units described below.

Duke Energy Holding Corp. (Duke Energy HC) was incorporated in Delaware on May 3, 2005 as Deer Holding Corp., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Duke Energy Corporation (Old Duke Energy). On April 3, 2006, in accordance with their previously announced merger agreement, Old Duke Energy and Cinergy merged into wholly-owned subsidiaries of Duke Energy HC, resulting in Duke Energy HC becoming the parent entity. In connection with the closing of the merger transactions, Duke Energy HC changed its name to Duke Energy Corporation (New Duke Energy or Duke Energy) and Old Duke Energy converted into a limited liability company named Duke Power Company LLC (subsequently renamed Duke Energy Carolinas, LLC (Duke Energy Carolinas) effective October 1, 2006). The company supplies and delivers energy to approximately 4 million U.S. customers. It has approximately 36,000 megawatts of electric generating capacity in the Midwest and the Carolinas, as well as approximately 4,000 megawatts of electric generation in Latin America.

The company operates in three segments: U.S. Franchised Electric and Gas, Commercial Power, and International Energy.

The U.S. Franchised Electric and Gas segment generates, transmits, distributes, and sells electricity in North Carolina, South Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio serving residential, businesses, and commercial/industrial markets.

The Commercial Power segment offers on-site energy solutions and utility services. This segment owns, operates, and manages non-regulated merchant power plants and engages in the wholesale marketing and procurement of electric power, fuel, and emission allowances related to plants.

The International Energy segment operates and manages power generation facilities and engages in sales and marketing of electric power and natural gas. This segment serves retail distributors, electric utilities, independent power producers, marketers, and industrial companies.
